COURSE DESCRIPTION
A. Catalog Description
Designing digital media for classroom and online instruction will be the first unit of this course, with primary emphasis on planning, designing, producing, and publishing digital media instruction. The second unit will deal with planning, producing, and teaching with digital audio. Unit three will present strategies for planning, producing and teaching with digital photography in a variety of instructional settings, and the final unit will present strategies for planning, producing, and teaching with digital video lessons that incorporate narration, still pictures, and live motion video into a single concept lesson. Topics covered will include basic terminology, file formats, scripting and storyboarding, equipment and software for digital media, and digital media for teaching and learning.
B. Course Rationale
Increasingly, instructional content is designed, produced and used in digital formats in traditional classrooms and in distance delivered instruction, with the single concept lesson as the primary building block of instruction. This course will provide instruction dealing with the planning, production and use of the primary forms of digital media – audio, still pictures, and video. Students will learn using a variety of digital media including single concept audio lessons, single concept video instruction, streaming audio and video, readings, and online tutorials. At the completion of this course, students will be competent at the production of single concept audio, still, and motion digital media, and will have the skills to supervise digital media production departments or consultants.
